Can You Build a Marketing Department on Open Source?

Short Form

This talk will explore the state of open source marketing software, and the viability of using it to run a marketing department.

Organizations make huge investments in marketing, but very little of it is spent on open source software. Popular content management systems are open (Drupal, Wordpress, ExpressionEngine, and others). But critical areas such as marketing automation, campaign analytics, design, and content management are dominated by closed-source solutions.

For those with little background in marketing technology, I’ll spend a bit of time going over the major areas first, before talking about some of the solutions that are out there and what they provide or lack. I’ll also spend some time talking about how we got here, and where there’s room for new open source solutions to emerge.
