Building a Native Drupal CRM*
Drupal is a great web application framework and CMS. Integration with 3rd party CRMs can be hard to build and maintain. Can Drupal handle both for small and mid-size organizations?
Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) systems are a critical component for many organizations. They can help:
- Manage members and donors, including accepting funds
- Handle events
- Track user engagement
- Maintain connections between individuals and organizations
There are some amazing open source CRMs, like CiviCRM and SugarCRM, and the commercial space is filled with giants like SalesForce and niche players like IMPak. ThinkShout decided that existing offerings were too complex for most organizations needs and difficult to integrate with their other online activities, so we set out to build our own native Drupal CRM which we dubbed RedHen.
This talk will explore the ins and outs of what this tool does and how it works, the development process, and how it’s being used in the wild.

I have not given this talk before
I’m a senior engineer and co-owner of ThinkShout, Inc., where I lead our technical design, as well as user interface and module development. Previously, I founded and led Level Online Strategy here in Portland, OR.
When not working to help organizations through technology, I like to take advantage of the areas they protect, be it on foot, skis, or bike. At least when I’m not wrapped up with my 2 boys, which isn’t very often these days!
